SENATE RESOLUTION 42

Recognizing the contributions of AARP West Virginia and its Capitol Advocacy Team of volunteers to the betterment of our state and its people.
Whereas, AARP West Virginia is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization representing 230,000 West Virginians and 38 million individuals nationwide who are 50 years of age or older; and
Whereas, AARP is a committed advocate working on behalf of its members on important national and state issues, actively engaging with the members of this body in representing the interests of aged 50-plus West Virginians and their families; and,
Whereas, AARP and its Capitol Advocacy Team make vital contributions to the public discourse at the West Virginia Legislature, engaging with lawmakers in-person in their districts and here at the State Capitol throughout regular session and interim meetings, as well as virtually from their homes and communities; and
Whereas, AARP's "Red Coat" advocates bring many years of experience from the private and public sector and are an important face and voice to the legislative process and the development of policies and laws that affect our state’s most vulnerable population, and all those living and working in the Mountain State; and,
Whereas, The dedication of these volunteers embodies the spirit of AARP founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who said ". . . the human contribution is the essential ingredient. It is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live."; and
Whereas, The words of Dr. Andrus continue to shape the work of AARP and its volunteers in empowering people to choose how they live as they age; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby recognizes the contributions of AARP West Virginia and its Capitol Advocacy Team of volunteers to the betterment of our state and its people; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate commends AARP West Virginia and its Capitol Advocacy Team of volunteers for their dedicated service and important contributions to AARP’s work to improve the quality of life for all West Virginians as they age; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to AARP West Virginia for its diligent advocacy and education efforts that raise awareness around the important issues affecting older West Virginians and their families; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the appropriate AARP West Virginia representative.
