[Originating in the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure; Reported on January 30, 2024]

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge 17-079/00-115.33 (NB-SB) (17A251,17A252), also known as the Quiet Dell Overpass and beginning at 39.22594, -80.29692 , located in Clarksburg, Harrison County, the "U.S. Army PFC William Gorman Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, William Gorman, was born on January 30, 1912, in Grant Town, West Virginia, and lived a life of distinction worthy of being remembered; and

Whereas, William Gorman joined the United States Army to serve during World War II. He was assigned to the 329 “Buckshot” Infantry Regiment and served in the heat of the European Theater;

Whereas, U.S. Army PFC William Gorman was wounded in France in July of 1944. After almost two years of service, he was medically discharged. Upon his return to the United States, he was fitted with and would live with a leg brace due to battle injuries; and

Whereas, U.S. Army PFC William Gorman was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Service Star, and the World War II Victory Medal; and

Whereas, Mr. Gorman was amongst heroes as he served his country fighting in World War II; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge 17-079/00-115.33 (NB-SB) (17A251,17A252), also known as the Quiet Dell Overpass and beginning at 39.22594, -80.29692, located in Clarksburg, Harrison County, the "U.S. Army PFC William Gorman Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed, signs identifying the bridge as the " U.S. Army PFC William Gorman Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
