WHEREAS, in 2016, Melissa S. Peacor retires as county executive for Prince William County after 30 years of dedicated service to the community; and WHEREAS, Melissa Peacor began her career with Prince William County in 1985 in the Planning Office; over the years, she served as the county's first strategic planning coordinator, budget director, assistant county executive, and deputy county executive; and WHEREAS, after a national search, Melissa Peacor was appointed by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors as county executive in 2010; she has been a staunch advocate for efficient local government and has earned recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association for her budgeting initiatives; and WHEREAS, under Melissa Peacor's leadership, Prince William County earned a AAA bond rating from all three major credit rating agencies for the first time in its history; she oversaw responsible growth that helped to strengthen and enhance the future of Prince William County; and WHEREAS, Melissa Peacor increased transparency in local government and encouraged citizen input and participation, initiating the county's first citizen-based strategic planning process and an annual citizen survey; and WHEREAS, earning the respect of both peers and employees, Melissa Peacor built and sustained a positive workplace culture in Prince William County government, with 91 percent of county employees reporting high levels of workplace satisfaction during her tenure; and WHEREAS, Melissa Peacor strove to inspire a new generation of local government professionals by increasing diversity in county offices and actively encouraging citizens to take part in local government; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Melissa S. Peacor hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as county executive of Prince William County; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Melissa S. Peacor as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her exemplary service to the residents of Prince William County. |
