SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27
Commending Marian A. White.
 
Agreed to by the Senate, February 10, 2011
 

WHEREAS, Marian A. White is commended on the occasion of her retirement as executive assistant to the county administrator and deputy clerk to the Board of Supervisors of King William County; and

WHEREAS, born on June 20, 1944, to Vollie and Annie Edwards Allen, Marian White was raised in the Whites Shop area and graduated from King William High School in 1962; and

WHEREAS, a longtime member of Colosse Baptist Church in King William, Marian White and her husband, Herbert, had one son, Scott; and

WHEREAS, Marian White began a career that would span more than three decades with King William County on December 9, 1974, as a secretary and dispatcher for the Sheriff's Office; and

WHEREAS, on January 1, 1977, Marian White transferred to the County Administrator's Office to assume the role of executive assistant to the county administrator and deputy clerk to the Board of Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure with the County Administrator's Office, Marian White has worked with 18 different members of the Board of Supervisors and six county administrators; and

WHEREAS, Marian White witnessed sweeping changes in the land use policies of King William County, including the adoption and implementation of the first county zoning ordinance, effective July 1, 1977, and the first subdivision ordinance, effective January 24, 1979; and

WHEREAS, present for the growth and development of King William County government, Marian White saw the renovation of the historic courthouse and the Circuit Court Clerk's Office; and

WHEREAS, Marian White witnessed the construction of numerous public buildings including the Administration Building, the L.T. McAllister Human Services Building, the Courts and Public Safety Building, and the Regional Animal Shelter; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to her native county, Marian White devoted her energies to improving the safety and services available to her community as a founder and past president of the King William Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad Auxiliary and the Mattaponi Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary as well as a charter member and officer of Mattaponi Crime Solvers, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, an avid history buff, Marian White witnessed the commissioning of the County Coat-of-Arms through the College of Arms in London, served as secretary to the King William County Tricentennial Committee, and is an active member of the King William County Historical Society; and

WHEREAS, Marian White has lent her immeasurable support to the endeavors of King William County and has committed her charismatic career to ensuring a prosperous and secure future for the residents, businesses, and schools of King William County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Marian A. White hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as executive assistant to the county administrator and deputy clerk to the Board of Supervisors of King William County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marian A. White as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's gratitude for her service to the Commonwealth.
