SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169
Commending Sewa International.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 8, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Sewa International is a Hindu faith-based, humanitarian, nonprofit organization founded in 2003 that serves 20 countries around the world through disaster relief, rehabilitation, and development programs; and

WHEREAS, Sewa International strives to address issues related to refugees, tribal welfare, female empowerment, health, and education and carries out these goals by mobilizing donors, volunteers, and more than 700 partner organizations; and

WHEREAS, Sewa International has various chapters throughout the world, including its Washington, D.C., Chapter, led by Vishal Khera, that provides many opportunities for volunteers to serve communities throughout the region; and

WHEREAS, Sewa International's volunteers participate in many projects in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., such as clothing and food drives, planting trees, and cleaning up temples and public spaces; and

WHEREAS, the Washington, D.C., Chapter of Sewa International has recently instituted a program known as LEAD that allows for youths in the region to participate in volunteer activities with the organization as well as to engage with and meet community and business leaders; and

WHEREAS, Sewa International has served countless communities throughout the world and has recently expanded into Colombia, Guyana, India, Kenya, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Sewa International hereby be commended for its efforts in community engagement and its assistance to underserved communities in the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sewa International as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's commitment to humanitarian programs and efforts to serve communities in need.
