WHEREAS, Loudoun County residents enjoy a beautiful natural environment that includes scenic byways and lush open spaces; and WHEREAS, for the past two years, Loudoun County residents have celebrated their commitment to protecting the natural environment with an EarthDay@Loudoun Family Festival; and WHEREAS, on April 25, 2010, Loudoun County residents celebrated Earth Day at the EarthDay@Loudoun Family Festival held at Willow Creek Farm at Broadlands; and WHEREAS, the EarthDay@Loudoun Family Festival, founded and organized by Broadlands Community Certified Wildlife Habitats Committee, was an official Earth Day event that brought together community members to learn more about environmental stewardship; and WHEREAS, the EarthDay@Loudoun Family Festival featured exhibits, a marketplace, music, wildlife demonstrations, and workshops geared toward all ages that encouraged visitors to conserve natural resources and live sustainably; and WHEREAS, the EarthDay@Loudoun Family Festival had over 100 exhibitors and drew over 6,000 people who learned about sustainable land use policies and ways they could incorporate environmentally friendly practices into their daily lives; and WHEREAS, the EarthDay@Loudoun Family Festival had numerous exhibits focused on educating the rising generation about the importance of protecting the county and planet's natural resources; and WHEREAS, the EarthDay@Loudoun Family Festival could not have happened without the generous support of its organizers and volunteers who donated their time, resources, and talents to create a welcoming, family-friendly event for the community; and WHEREAS, organizers and supporters of the EarthDay@Loudoun Family Festival have already begun preparations for the third annual event and look forward to continuing to celebrate individuals' and businesses' conservation achievements and to educate residents and visitors about the importance of protecting the natural environment; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the residents of Loudoun County on their observance of Earth Day; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Oya Simpson, chairperson of the Broadlands Community Certified Wildlife Habitats Committee, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and respect for the residents' commitment to environmental stewardship. |
