SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 3
Commending Travis C. McDonald, Jr.

WHEREAS, Travis C. McDonald, Jr., an architectural historian who has helped protect and preserve historical sites in the Commonwealth and the United States, was honored for his 25 years of service as director of architectural restoration of Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest in September 2015; and

WHEREAS, Travis McDonald holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and a master's degree from the University of Virginia; he further refined his knowledge of architecture at the Victorian Society summer program and the Attingham Summer School in England; and

WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished career, Travis McDonald conducted architectural surveys and restoration projects in Florida, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, and Washington, D.C., and worked on the City of Emporia's Centennial Project; and

WHEREAS, Travis McDonald joined the staff of Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest in 1989; during his tenure as restoration director, the structure had been called one of the most authentic restoration projects in the country; and

WHEREAS, Travis McDonald has written and lectured extensively on Poplar Forest and earned the Architecture Medal for Virginia Service from the Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for his contributions to the site; and

WHEREAS, deeply respected in his field, Travis McDonald has offered his expertise to numerous historic preservation advisory boards and foundations throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Travis C. McDonald, Jr., on his 25th anniversary as director of architectural restoration of Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Travis C. McDonald, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his work to preserve the history and heritage of the Commonwealth and the United States.
