SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 252
Commending the Altavista High School softball team.

WHEREAS, the 2009 Altavista High School softball team completed an outstanding season by defeating Glenvar High School (7–1) to claim the Group A state title; and

WHEREAS, on the way to the championship game, the Altavista High School softball team won the Dogwood District title, the district tournament, and the Region B title; and

WHEREAS, before an enthusiastic crowd, the Altavista High School Lady Colonels claimed an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning; and

WHEREAS, led by a remarkable pitching performance, the Lady Colonels dominated the Glenvar High School team, which did not score until the seventh inning; and

WHEREAS, in only his second year as the head coach, Tim Fenn led the Lady Colonels to an impressive 19–4 record and a state championship; and

WHEREAS, the entire team—Amanda Sandridge, Kristin Gibson, Kacey Angell, Nicole Wade, Hannah Sturm, Haley Gledhill, Megan Thurman, Samantha Farmer, Lori Cox, Lindsay Mayberry, Mallory Green, Charnele Miller, Maggie White, Brooke Short, Chelsea Stephens, Hannah Lukin, and Jessica Critchley—worked hard and contributed throughout the entire season and championship games; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the Lady Colonels is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Tim Fenn, assistant coaches Sid Weeks and Philip Short, and managers Leslie Cox and Kelsie Layne; and the tremendous support of the parents, students, and faculty of Altavista High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Altavista High School softball team for winning the Virginia High School League Group A state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tim Fenn, head coach of the Altavista High School softball team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's 2009 championship performance.
