SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 1
Commending the Colonial Beach High School boys' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the 2009 Colonial Beach High School boys' basketball team capped an outstanding season by winning its first Virginia High School League Group A, Division 1 state basketball championship before an enthusiastic crowd on March 13, 2009; and

WHEREAS, on its way to the state title, the Region A champion Drifters team won a decisive victory over Altavista High School, (55–36), in the semifinal game of the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, in an exciting game before more than 3,500 people in the crowd at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Colonial Beach High School defeated Eastern Montgomery High School, 77–75, in a close, hard-fought game to take home the state championship; and

WHEREAS, the Drifters team was led by T.T. Carey, who scored 37 points and had 16 rebounds, and Dylan Farinet, who scored 18 points and had 19 rebounds; and

WHEREAS, the entire team worked hard and made significant contributions throughout the season and the championship games; and

WHEREAS, with only two years in the Virginia High School League, the Colonial Beach High School boys' basketball team demonstrated its competitive spirit and teamwork in a rousing state tournament game; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2009 Drifters is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Coach Steve Swope and his staff; and the support of the parents, student body, and faculty and leadership of Colonial Beach High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the boys' basketball team from Colonial Beach High School on its outstanding 2009 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Steve Swope as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2009 Colonial Beach High School boys' basketball team.
