A BILL to amend and reenact §63.2-620 of the Code of Virginia, relating to child care services for TANF and low-income families.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 63.2-620 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§63.2-620. Child care services for TANF and low-income families.

A. The Department shall provide financial assistance to pay a portion of the cost of child care services for TANF recipients and other individuals whose incomes are at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level who are employed or participating in job placement, job training, or education services in accordance with the provisions of § 63.2-608 and who require financial assistance with the costs of child care to enable continued employment or participation in job placement, job training, or education services.

B. The Department shall identify strategies for Virginia to obtain the maximum amount of federal funds available for child care services for TANF recipients and families whose incomes are at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level. The Department shall provide an annual report on these strategies to the chairmen of the House Committees on Appropriations and Health, Welfare and Institutions and Senate Committees on Finance and Rehabilitation and Social Services by December 15.
