WHEREAS, the McLean High School baseball team won the Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship on June 8, 2024, at Deep Run High School in Henrico County; and

WHEREAS, in the program's first-ever appearance in a state championship final, the McLean High School Highlanders defeated the South Lakes High School Seahawks of Reston by a score of 15–5 to bring home the title; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Highlanders' victory was a total team effort, led by pitching that had been dominant all season and a relentless offense that consistently delivered, scoring in each of the five final innings of the contest; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Highlanders showed extraordinary resilience in their championship campaign, overcoming injuries and a five-game losing streak in the middle of the season to win 14 of their last 18 games and to go 7–2 in the postseason and 3–0 in the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Highlanders grew into a championship squad through the support each player had for one another, cultivating a winning chemistry that buoyed the team through its final games; and

WHEREAS, the success of the McLean Highlanders is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of the entire McLean High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the McLean High School baseball team hereby be commended for winning the 2024 Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Dowling, head coach of the McLean High School baseball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement.
