WHEREAS, the Brunswick Academy softball team of Lawrenceville won the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III state championship on May 17, 2024, in Dinwiddie; and
WHEREAS, the Brunswick Academy Lady Vikings defeated the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators of Chesapeake by a score of 5–1 to bring home a state championship title; and
WHEREAS, the Brunswick Lady Vikings' victory was a total team effort, led by stellar performances from Emily King, who pitched a complete game and homered in the contest; Aubrey Corum, who went three for four at the plate while notching two runs and a run-batted-in; and Lexi Howerton, who had a home run and two runs-batted-in; and
WHEREAS, numerous members of the Brunswick Academy softball team were honored at the end of the 2024 season with nominations to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division III All-State first and second teams, including Co-VISAA Division III player of the year Emily King, as well as Aubrey Corum, Lexi Howerton, Avery Griffin, Kylie Walker, and Riley Griffin; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his accomplishments over the season, Daryl Clary, head coach of the Brunswick Academy softball team, was named the VISAA Division III coach of the year; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Brunswick Lady Vikings is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Brunswick Academy community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Brunswick Academy softball team hereby be commended for winning the 2024 Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Daryl Clary, head coach of the Brunswick Academy softball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement.
