WHEREAS, the Rockingham County Baseball League, an amateur baseball league that is one of the oldest continuously active baseball leagues in the country, celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Rockingham County Baseball League (RCBL) was founded in 1924 by Polly Lineweaver, a sportswriter at the Daily News-Record, who brought together teams from the communities of Briery Branch, Bridgewater, Broadway, Dayton, Keezletown, Linville-Edom, Port Republic, and Spring Creek; and

WHEREAS, in the early years of the RCBL, the team with the best regular season record played against the best team from the Augusta County League in a bi-county series; since 1938, the league has held its own championship series each season; and

WHEREAS, the teams in the RCBL have changed over the past century, representing communities from throughout Rockingham, Augusta, Page, and Shenandoah Counties; and

WHEREAS, the RCBL has produced several players who went on the play baseball at higher levels, including some who played Major League Baseball; and

WHEREAS, the RCBL honors its history through the RCBL Hall of Fame and a virtual museum featuring jerseys, baseballs, and other ephemera that memorialize the legacy of the league; and

WHEREAS, the RCBL has made an indelible mark on the culture of the Shenandoah Valley and helped to make the region a wonderful place to live, work, and play ball; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Rockingham County Baseball League hereby be commended on the occasion of the league's 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Rockingham County Baseball League as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the league's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
