WHEREAS, M. Scott Miller, an esteemed public servant with nearly a half-century of experience at the state and local level, retired from his position as treasurer of Hanover County on December 31, 2023; and
WHEREAS, over his 28-year tenure as treasurer of Hanover County, Scott Miller became a pillar of the locality's operations as he oversaw the receiving and disbursing of funds and implemented an investment program to safely and productively manage the county's assets; and
WHEREAS, as the banker of Hanover County, Scott Miller was responsible for collecting taxes and outstanding debts on behalf of the locality, and throughout the years, he would incorporate new technology and other innovations to facilitate the process for area residents and businesses; and
WHEREAS, Scott Miller advanced his field through his involvement with the Treasurers' Association of Virginia, in which he served as president in 2005–2006 and in numerous other leadership positions; and
WHEREAS, Scott Miller was the recipient of a plethora of accolades and honors in recognition of his many years of meritorious service, including Treasurer of the Year awards from the Treasurers' Association of Virginia in 2004 and 2016; and
WHEREAS, Scott Miller's tireless efforts, steadfast professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of his community have helped to make Hanover County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That M. Scott Miller hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement from his position as treasurer of Hanover County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to M. Scott Miller as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his legacy of service and best wishes in his future endeavors.
