Celebrating the life of Anthony Patrick Smith.

WHEREAS, Anthony Patrick Smith, a retired state employee and a dedicated volunteer leader in the Richmond community, died on December 3, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Anthony "Tony" Smith grew up in Richmond, where he graduated from John Marshall High School and studied art and sculpture at the former Richmond Professional Institute; and

WHEREAS, Tony Smith began his career as a cartographer and draftsman for Chesterfield County, then worked for the State Corporation Commission as an insurance examiner and auditor until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Tony Smith was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and spending time at the Shrine Mont retreat center; he was active in Scouting for more than five decades, including a 35-year tenure as Scoutmaster of Troop 400 in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, Tony Smith personally mentored more than 300 Eagle Scouts and received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award and the James E. West Fellowship Award for his incredible contributions to generations of young people; and

WHEREAS, Tony Smith had a passion for classic cars and was active with the Richmond Region Antique Automobile Club of Virginia and the Richmond BMW Riders Club; and

WHEREAS, Tony Smith was also a member of the Commonwealth Club, the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, the Lewis Ginter Recreation Association, and the Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution; and

WHEREAS, Tony Smith enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a longtime member of Saint James's Episcopal Church, and he and his wife, Barbara, conducted numerous mission trips to Honduras through the church; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by one son, Stephen, Tony Smith will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara; his children, Stephanie, Andrew, Matthew, and Mary, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Anthony Patrick Smith, a highly admired member of the Richmond community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Anthony Patrick Smith as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
