Commending the UVA Health Auxiliary.

WHEREAS, for more than 60 years, the UVA Health Auxiliary has greatly supported patients and staff at the UVA Health Prince William Medical Center and UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center, facilitating the organization's efforts to promote the health and well-being of the Northern Virginia community; and

WHEREAS, as what was originally the Prince William Hospital was being constructed in the early 1960s, community members began discussing the importance of establishing a hospital auxiliary, leading to the first official meeting of the UVA Health Auxiliary on November 7, 1962; and

WHEREAS, the UVA Health Auxiliary's first members, known initially as Pink Ladies and today as Auxilians, were on hand as hostesses at the official opening of the Prince William Hospital on June 7, 1964, and shortly thereafter the organization was granted membership in the Virginia Association of Hospital Auxiliaries; and

WHEREAS, the UVA Health Auxiliary provides a range of programs and services that have evolved over the years as needs and circumstances change, from assisting the hospital blood bank and fund drives to staffing components of the hospital's operations such as the baby photo studio, visitor's reception desk, the snack bar and gift shop, and other hospital and nursing-approved patient services; and

WHEREAS, the UVA Health Auxiliary has operated a teen volunteer program since 1965, inspiring many young people to explore careers in health care and medicine, and the auxiliary expanded its rolls in the mid-1980s by including men as members; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, members of the UVA Health Auxiliary have volunteered over 2.5 million service hours, while the organization has raised more than $5.7 million through its various activities to further a plethora of worthwhile initiatives at the UVA Health Prince William Medical Center and UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the UVA Health Auxiliary are the result of the visionary leadership of its board of directors, the tireless efforts of its volunteers, and the unwavering support of the staff and administration at the UVA Health Prince William Medical Center and UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the UVA Health Auxiliary hereby be commended for its laudable service to the community and its deep commitment to the success of the UVA Health Prince William Medical Center and UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the UVA Health Auxiliary as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's contributions to Prince William County and the Commonwealth.
