WHEREAS, Shelley Blumenthal, head coach of the Blacksburg High School boys' soccer team, earned his 500th career victory in April 2018; and

WHEREAS, since becoming head coach of the boys' soccer team in 1992, Shelley Blumenthal has led the Blacksburg High School Bruins to 22 regional titles and 11 state titles in 20 state championship appearances; and

WHEREAS, under Shelley Blumenthal's leadership, the Blacksburg Bruins have achieved a 93 percent overall win rate and received well-deserved national recognition for their dominance on the pitch; and

WHEREAS, Shelley Blumenthal began the 2018 season with 495 wins and led the Blacksburg Bruins to five consecutive victories, culminating in the milestone 2 - 0 home win over Northside High School on April 18, 2018; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Shelley Blumenthal has mentored and inspired countless students, giving them the tools and support to achieve success in athletics, academics, and community life; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of Shelley Blumenthal's incredible contributions to Blacksburg High School athletics, the entrance road to Bill Brown Stadium was renamed Blumenthal Byway; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Shelley Blumenthal hereby be commended on the occasion of his 500th career victory as coach of the Blacksburg High School boys' soccer team; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Shelley Blumenthal as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his historic accomplishments and legacy of service to the young people of Blacksburg.
