HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 614
Commending the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, May 13, 2024

 

WHEREAS, for 50 years, the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program has worked diligently to increase transportation safety by decreasing incidents of impaired driving while providing support to offenders in need of treatment and monitoring on the Virginia Peninsula; and

WHEREAS, the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program, based in Newport News, is one of 24 Alcohol Safety Action Programs throughout the Commonwealth that provide probationary oversight to offenders who have been referred from a court, typically for a conviction of driving under the influence; and

WHEREAS, the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program strives to reduce alcohol and drug-related crashes and deter those who have been arrested and convicted of driving under the influence from doing so again by raising awareness of the civil and legal consequences of impaired driving and influencing public perception of transportation crash risks; and

WHEREAS, in addition to its educational programs, the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program provides adjudication, case management and intervention services, and evaluation and certification courses for offenders; and

WHEREAS, the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program supports offenders through testing, screening, and monitoring services to ensure probationary compliance, as well as driver improvement and license restoration classes to promote safety in the future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's work to reduce impaired driving and help individuals on the Virginia Peninsula make responsible choices.
