Commending the Potomac Senior High School Culinary Department.

WHEREAS, the Potomac Senior High School Culinary Department provides students with real-world work experience in the food service industry in a fun and supportive environment, opening new pathways to rewarding careers in the restaurant and hospitality industries; and

WHEREAS, the Potomac Senior High School Culinary Department offers a two-year program that begins in 11th grade; students have the opportunity to plan, select, store, purchase, prepare, and serve food and food products; study basic nutrition, sanitation, and food safety; learn the use and care of commercial equipment; and practice the operation of institutional food establishments; and

WHEREAS, students also have an opportunity to practice serving and dining room management, including real-world experience working with local business owners and food establishments in the community; and

WHEREAS, the Potomac Senior High School Culinary Department uses textbooks and resources from renowned institutions like the Culinary Institute of America and maintains a state-of-the-art cooking lab; and

WHEREAS, the Potomac Senior High School Culinary Department is led by Ronald Evans, a former United States Marine Corps cook with more than 20 years of experience and expert knowledge in international cuisine, southern cuisine, catering, and meat production, and Dwayne Iles, who has more than 16 years of experience in restaurant management, catering, meat fabrication, and Asian cuisine; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Potomac Senior High School Culinary Department hereby be commended for providing unique learning experiences to students in Prince William County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Potomac Senior High School Culinary Department as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the program's contributions to education and career development.
