WHEREAS, Albert White, a dedicated law-enforcement officer with the Chesapeake Police Department, demonstrated exceptional courage and composure as the first officer on the scene of a shooting at the Chesapeake Walmart Supercenter on November 22, 2022; and
WHEREAS, Albert White was inspired by his father, a retired Norfolk police officer, to pursue a career in law enforcement and had been serving as a patrol officer for only about four months when he responded to the shooting; and
WHEREAS, not knowing the location of the shooter, Albert White parked a safe distance from the doors of the Walmart and proceeded on foot; he quickly encountered a woman who had been shot in the neck and the stomach and began to administer first aid; and
WHEREAS, Albert White questioned the woman about the location of the shooter and radioed the information to other officers who were en route to the chaotic scene; and
WHEREAS, Albert White's partner arrived soon thereafter and helped provide first aid to the wounded until paramedics reached the scene and took over; and
WHEREAS, Albert White joined other officers inside the Walmart, where he encountered a woman in a motorized shopping cart and escorted her safely out of the store and back to her vehicle; and
WHEREAS, Albert White remained in the area and provided a calming presence for employees and wounded individuals until the scene was declared safe later that night; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his selfless dedication to duty, WTKR News 3 presented Albert White with an Everyday Hero Award as a token of the community's appreciation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Albert White hereby be commended for his heroic response to the mass shooting at the Chesapeake Walmart Supercenter in 2022; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Albert White as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his outstanding service and contributions to the safety and well-being of his fellow Chesapeake residents.
