WHEREAS, Eugene L. Campbell, a respected farmer, public servant, philanthropist, and lifelong resident of King William County, died on June 25, 2015; and WHEREAS, Eugene "Dick" L. Campbell attended what is now Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and joined many of the other young men of his generation in service to his country during World War II; and WHEREAS, after his honorable discharge, Dick Campbell pursued a career in dairy farming, working on two farms, the Grove and Greenville; he was an active member of and leader in agribusiness organizations; and WHEREAS, Dick Campbell ran for and was elected to the King William County Board of Supervisors in 1963; he served for 12 years, including 10 years as chair, and offered his wisdom and expertise to many local and regional committees and commissions; and WHEREAS, working to further strengthen and enhance the community, Dick Campbell volunteered his time with civic and service organizations, and he frequently hosted charitable fundraisers at his cottage on the Mattaponi River; and WHEREAS, Dick Campbell lived his faith through his actions and enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of McKendree United Methodist Church, where he held several leadership positions; and WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Charlotte, Dick Campbell will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Eugene, Lisa, Ellen Kay, and Elizabeth, and their families and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Eugene L. Campbell, a farmer, public servant, and active supporter of the King William County community; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Eugene L. Campbell as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory. |
