WHEREAS, Dr. Nancy Elizabeth Boylan Alford, an accomplished psychologist, a loving wife and mother, and an admired member of the South Hill community, died on March 9, 2018; and
WHEREAS, a native of Portsmouth, Nancy Boylan graduated from Craddock High School in 1960 and married her beloved husband, John Alford, that same year; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Alford worked as a telephone operator and a substitute teacher before earning bachelor's and master's degrees from Old Dominion University and a doctorate from the Florida Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, in 1985, Nancy Alford became the coordinator for child and youth services at Halifax County Mental Health Center, then served members of the community as a clinical psychologist in private practice from 1986 to 1995, when she joined Carriage House Psychological Associates, PLLC; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Alford also served as a guest lecturer at East Carolina Medical School, an assistant director at the Psychopharmacology Institute, and a behavioral health consultant in pediatrics at the Rural Health Group in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, a recognized expert in her field, Nancy Alford was a member of the American Psychological Association, received numerous awards and accolades throughout her distinguished career, and was a sought-after lecturer and presenter on a range of topics; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Alford will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, John; their children, Donna, Roger, Thomas, Laura, and Joseph, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dr. Nancy Elizabeth Boylan Alford, a respected psychologist in South Hill; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. Nancy Elizabeth Boylan Alford as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
