HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 46
Commending Doug and Ann Farmer.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 15, 2016

WHEREAS, Doug and Ann Farmer have promoted family values and the joys of outdoor recreation for more than three decades as the owners of Camp Shenandoah Springs in Madison County; and

WHEREAS, what is now Camp Shenandoah Springs began as a farm owned by the Yowell family in the 1700s; Doug and Ann Farmer purchased the 125-acre homestead in 1981 and established an independent, inter-denominational Christian retreat facility, while maintaining the historic nature of the grounds; and

WHEREAS, under Doug and Ann Farmer's leadership, Camp Shenandoah Springs has welcomed guests from around the world, including a group of 500 University of Paris students in 1993 and generations of families from the Commonwealth and the United States; and

WHEREAS, each year, children and families from all over the Commonwealth are able to attend Camp Shenandoah Springs, regardless of their ability to pay, due to the generosity of Doug and Ann Farmer, who regularly waive fees to ensure that less fortunate members of the community are able to take part; and

WHEREAS, Doug and Ann Farmer regularly allow the facility to be used as a refuge for families struggling financially, including free lodging; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Doug and Ann Farmer hereby be commended for their service to countless residents of and visitors to the Commonwealth as the owners of Camp Shenandoah Springs; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug and Ann Farmer as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for their generosity and contributions to the preservation of Virginia's history and the well-being of families.
