WHEREAS, ChildSavers-Memorial Child Guidance Clinic, a beacon of hope for children and families in the greater Richmond area, proudly celebrates its 100th anniversary in August 2024; and
WHEREAS, ChildSavers, formerly known as the Children's Memorial Clinic, was established in memory of Dr. McGuire Newton, one of Richmond's first pediatricians and opened on August 8, 1924; and
WHEREAS, as one of the pioneering original 10 child guidance clinics in the United States, ChildSavers was the first of its kind in the South; and
WHEREAS, in the early 1980s, ChildSavers expanded its impact by adding a child development services department to train, coach, and support child care providers, parents, and the community to provide better care for young children; and
WHEREAS, starting in 2004, ChildSavers created the first trauma response program in the Commonwealth, dedicated to immediate response and counseling services for children exposed to trauma; and
WHEREAS, ChildSavers manages all early childcare initiatives for Central Virginia and improves access to high quality early learning experiences by enriching learning environments, providing nutritious meals, and enhancing teacher-child interactions; and
WHEREAS, ChildSavers is responding to the youth mental health crisis through partnerships to provide integrated, clinical behavioral health services in 15 public schools in Richmond and five public schools in Hopewell; and
WHEREAS, rooted in the belief that every child has the right to be safe, healthy, happy, and ready to learn, ChildSavers provides trauma response, mental health counseling, and early childhood development services to ensure that children can thrive and reach their fullest potential; and
WHEREAS, through its philosophy of preventing developmental problems to the greatest extent possible and intervening when necessary, ChildSavers serves thousands of children, teenagers, their families, and caregivers each year, regardless of a family's ability to pay; and
WHEREAS, in 2023, ChildSavers provided mental health counseling to 955 children in its guidance clinic, school-based sites, and psychiatry and immediate response programs, and the organization mentored and trained 6,222 child care professionals, improving the quality of care and learning in preschool for 36,727 children five years old and younger; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That ChildSavers-Memorial Child Guidance Clinic hereby be commended on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to L. Robert Bolling, chief executive officer of ChildSavers-Memorial Child Guidance Clinic, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for its unwavering commitment to young people in Central Virginia and throughout the Commonwealth.
