HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 349
Commending Lora Bickley.

WHEREAS, Lora Bickley, office manager and assistant to Dr. John W. "Billy" Haun, Ed.D., executive director of the Virginia High School League, will retire in August 2024 after 55 years of outstanding and meritorious service to the Virginia High School League; and

WHEREAS, Lora Bickley began her career with the Virginia High School League (VHSL) in August of 1969, after graduating from Orange County High School in 1968; and

WHEREAS, as a result of her continued diligent work, demonstrated ability, and congeniality, Lora Bickley advanced from the position of receptionist to senior secretary and office manager, as well as to the role of top assistant to executive director Earl Gillespie in 1974; then, in 1995, she became the top assistant to new executive director Ken Tilley, officially joining the administrative staff; and

WHEREAS, over her 55 years of service, Lora Bickley has been an integral part of all VHSL programs, fulfilling many roles such as liaison, principle point of contact, event coordinator, and clinic administrator; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her excellent skills, professionalism, and commitment to the member-schools of the VHSL, Lora Bickley's duties and responsibilities expanded over the years to include challenging tasks such as compiling data for the reclassification of schools, coordinating the calendar of events for the VHSL's 24 regions and championship events in 27 athletic activities and 16 academic activities, and maintaining the VHSL's complex football ratings system; and

WHEREAS, in appreciation for her loyal service, positive influence, and service with a smile, Lora Bickley was honored in 2010 with an Award of Excellence from the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association; and

WHEREAS, on October 17, 2011, valuing her loyal years of service, positive influence, and exemplary dedication to serving schools across the Commonwealth with fairness and integrity, the VHSL inducted Lora Bickley into its Virginia High School Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Lora Bickley has faithfully supported and executed the mission of the VHSL and leaves a legacy of excellence after providing professional, respectful, and enthusiastic service to the youth, coaches, administrators, parents, and communities of VHSL member-schools; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Lora Bickley hereby be commended for her dedicated service to the Virginia High School League and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lora Bickley as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her achievements and contributions in service to the Commonwealth, congratulations on her well-earned retirement, and best wishes to her and her family for continued success, happiness, and good health in the years to come.
