WHEREAS, Commander Douglas Michael Morea, USN, an honorable veteran, distinguished naval aviator, and beloved son, husband, and brother, died on January 2, 2024; and
WHEREAS, a native of Port Washington, New York, Douglas "Doug" Michael Morea, known affectionately by his family as "Dougie," and by the United States Navy as "Dorothy," his call sign, discovered a passion for aviation at a young age and attended the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated in 2004 with a degree in aerospace engineering; and
WHEREAS, Doug Morea was an accomplished aviator with the United States Navy, logging over 3,700 flight hours, 675 carrier landings, and more than 80 combat missions in the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Doug Morea's career included tours as a junior officer in the "Golden Warriors" of Strike Fighter Squadron 87, as a training officer for the "Valions" of Strike Fighter Squadron 15, and as department head in the "Sunliners" of Strike Fighter Squadron 81; and
WHEREAS, Doug Morea was a graduate of the prestigious United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program, more commonly known as TOPGUN, where he remained on staff as an instructor and as the standardization officer; and
WHEREAS, Doug Morea admirably served as the commanding officer for the "Blue Blasters" of Strike Fighter Squadron 34 from April 2022 to July 2023; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to improving his abilities as an aviator, Doug Morea recently attended the Joint Advanced Warfighting School, from which he will receive a posthumous master's degree; and
WHEREAS, Doug Morea has received several commendation and achievement medals in recognition of his service, including the LCDR Michael Longhardt Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS, Doug Morea will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Chelsea; his father and stepmother, Jerry and Lynne; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Commander Douglas Michael Morea, USN, who was a source of joy and inspiration to all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Commander Douglas Michael Morea, USN, as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
