WHEREAS, Tema Choir USA, a Ghanian American choral group in Woodbridge that has greatly supported community and arts and cultural endeavors in Prince William County, commemorates its fifth anniversary in 2024; and
WHEREAS, Tema Choir USA was founded in 2019 following the relocation of world-class musician, conductor, and educator Ebenezer A. Allotey, who is also the founder of the famous Tema Youth Choir in Ghana; and
WHEREAS, Tema Choir USA specializes in Ghanaian highlife music and hymns and has brought greater attention in the United States to this beloved art form since its founding; and
WHEREAS, from concerts at assisted living centers to a performance at the Embassy of Ghana's Independence Day celebration, Tema Choir USA has uplifted audiences across the Washington, D.C., area with the its bright and joyful singing; and
WHEREAS, founded shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic, Tema Choir USA held two virtual fundraising concerts to support Prince William County aid organizations during the historic public health crisis and also helped raise awareness with its song, "Stay at Home Now"; and
WHEREAS, guided by its mission "to create community, foster unity, and build a better world through music," Tema Choir USA has regularly supported food pantries serving the Prince William County area; and
WHEREAS, Tema Choir USA demonstrates the power of music to inspire emotional and spiritual healing, helping to make Prince William County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Tema Choir USA hereby be commended for its success and service to the community on the occasion of its fifth anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ebenezer A. Allotey, founder of Tema Choir USA, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the group's contributions to the Commonwealth.
