HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 243
Commending Sam and Lillian Hill.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Sam and Lillian Hill, active and engaged members of the Prince William County community, will be honored for their distinguished service at the Hylton Performing Arts Center's 14th Anniversary Gala on April 27, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Sam and Lillian Hill met during their graduate studies at Gallaudet University, where he earned a master's degree in counseling the deaf and hearing impaired and she earned a master's degree in education of the deaf and hearing impaired with a specialization in preschool education; Sam Hill also holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Texas Tech University; and

WHEREAS, a member of the San Antonio Ballet Company early in the couple's marriage, Lillian Hill went on to enjoy a storied, 39-year career as a preschool educator in Illinois and the Commonwealth until her retirement in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Sam and Lillian Hill have given generously of their time in support of Prince William County and its residents since 2005, when Sam Hill became provost of the Northern Virginia Community College's Woodbridge Campus, a role in which he thrived for 17 years until his retirement in 2022; and

WHEREAS, Sam and Lillian Hill have supported the Hylton Performing Arts Center since its inception, where their involvement has included being Copper Circle members, participating in the Take a Seat campaign, serving as co-chairs of the center's capital campaign, and attending performances regularly; and

WHEREAS, Sam Hill's engagement in Prince William County extends beyond the Hylton Performing Arts Center through his service on the boards of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, the Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, and the education nonprofit organization Future Kings; and

WHEREAS, Sam Hill's current board and community service includes the Potomac Health Foundation, Manassas Ballet Theatre, Lake Ridge Rotary Club, Northern Virginia Family Service, and the Food Rescue Hero program with Northern Virginia Food Rescue; and

WHEREAS, Sam and Lillian Hill most recently led the effort, with the support of several local businesses and organizations, to bring a traveling exhibit about the men and women of the Tuskegee Airmen program to Manassas Regional Airport; and

WHEREAS, Sam and Lillian Hill's kind and benevolent spirit have helped to make Prince William County a more wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Sam and Lillian Hill hereby be commended for being honored at the Hylton Performing Arts Center's 14th Anniversary Gala in 2024; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sam and Lillian Hill as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the couple's legacy of service.
