HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 210
Commending the Virginia Youth Poet Laureate Ambassadors.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2024
 

WHEREAS, the Virginia Youth Poet Laureate program was developed by Teens with a Purpose, Hampton Roads Youth Poets, and Urban World to engage with high schools and identify students who are interested in performance poetry and committed to civic engagement and community leadership; and

WHEREAS, originally limited to Norfolk schools, Teens with a Purpose expanded its Youth Poet Laureate program to all of Hampton Roads in 2016 and launched a statewide program in 2023; and

WHEREAS, after Kashvi Ramani of Ashburn was selected as the inaugural Virginia Youth Poet Laureate, four runners-up were named as Virginia Youth Poet Laureate Ambassadors; and

WHEREAS, the 2023 Virginia Youth Poet Laureate Ambassadors are Amina Adeyloa of Richmond, Shawna Alston of Norfolk, Fairouz Bsharat of Chester, and Areen Syed of Virginia Beach; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Hampton Roads Youth Poet Laureate Ambassadors—Amina Adeyloa, Shawna Alston, Fairouz Bsharat, and Areen Syed—hereby be commended for their contributions to poetry, humanities education, and community engagement throughout Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to the Hampton Roads Youth Poet Laureate Ambassadors as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for their work to promote poetry as an art form and represent the Hampton Roads community.
