Commending Kashvi Ramani.

WHEREAS, Kashvi Ramani, a talented young writer from Ashburn, was selected as the first Virginia Youth Poet Laureate in 2023; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Youth Poet Laureate program was developed by Teens with a Purpose, Hampton Roads Youth Poets, and Urban World to engage with high schools throughout the Commonwealth to identify students like Kashvi Ramani who were interested in performance poetry and committed to civic engagement and community leadership; and

WHEREAS, Kashvi Ramani began to cultivate her passion for poetry during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she participated in virtual poetry workshops and trainings; and

WHEREAS, Kashvi Ramani further honed her skills by attending poetry open mic nights and poetry competitions, and she has been a member of the DC Youth Slam Team for several years; and

WHEREAS, Kashvi Ramani takes inspiration for her work from the world around her and has experimented with many different styles of poetry writing techniques; and

WHEREAS, Kashvi Ramani previously attended Rock Ridge High School in Ashburn and is a current student at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, where she is studying filmmaking; and

WHEREAS, as the Virginia Youth Poet Laureate, Kashvi Ramani will represent the Commonwealth in the 2024 National Youth Poet Laureate competition, competing against 44 other state winners from across the country; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Kashvi Ramani hereby be commended on becoming the first Virginia Youth Poet Laureate in 2023; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kashvi Ramani as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her achievements and best wishes for the future.
