WHEREAS, Ida Mabel Bright, the matriarch of a loving family and longtime member of Little Piney Grove Baptist Church, died on February 6, 2013, at the age of 101; and WHEREAS, born on August 11, 1911, Mabel Bright was the sixth of 10 children born to Frank and Dizzer Lawrence; and WHEREAS, Mabel Bright grew up in the Back Bay section of Princess Anne County, now known as Virginia Beach, and joined Little Piney Grove Baptist Church as a young woman; and WHEREAS, Mabel Bright married the love of her life, James, and together they raised three children, Vernon, Audrey, and Shirley; and WHEREAS, Mabel Bright, who helped area families maintain their homes, worked diligently with her husband to provide for their family; and WHEREAS, a dynamic, graceful, and compassionate woman, Mabel Bright showered love and attention on her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and took delight in their company; and WHEREAS, Mabel Bright shared home remedies and home cooking with family members and friends, who fondly remember her "healing hands" and signature homemade rolls, fried chicken, and sweet potato pies; and WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mabel Bright was a member of Little Piney Grove Baptist Church for more than eight decades; and WHEREAS, Mabel Bright served in a variety of capacities over the years at Little Piney Grove Baptist Church, including as a member of the deaconess board, Sunday school, Number Two Choir, and missionary circle and as the Mother of the Church; and WHEREAS, Mabel Bright was blessed to see many changes and advances in the world over the course of her remarkably well-lived life and touched the lives of countless individuals with her caring heart and firm faith; and WHEREAS, Mabel Bright was predeceased by her husband, James; grandchild, Vernon; and great-grandchild, Chermere; and will be greatly missed by her children, Vernon, Audrey, and Shirley; grandchildren, Cynthia, Keith, Cordell, and Wendy; and great-grandchildren, John and Marcel; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved citizen of Virginia Beach, Ida Mabel Bright; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ida Mabel Bright as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory. |
