HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 173
Commending Megan Beatty Gaeta.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 15, 2013

WHEREAS, Megan Beatty Gaeta, a special education teacher at Robinson Secondary School, received one of the Virginia Lottery's 2012 Super Teacher Awards for her innovation in the classroom, her positive impact on the greater Northern Virginia community, and her dedication to her students; and

WHEREAS, Megan Gaeta developed the remarkable curriculum for the Packaged with Care (PWC) program, which teaches special education students invaluable life skills, while also allowing them to contribute to those in need; and

WHEREAS, Megan Gaeta reached out to the community to form partnerships with area businesses and organizations in order to fund the program; and

WHEREAS, the PWC program gives students a certain amount of money to buy household necessities, guides them through the budgeting process, takes them into the community to purchase and later package the supplies, and finally sends the packages to area charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, Megan Gaeta and her students have delivered over 600 care packages to 18 different charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, Megan Gaeta attended Robinson Secondary School herself, before graduating from James Madison University and returning to serve the community at her home school; she serves as a role model to public school students across the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Megan Beatty Gaeta hereby be commended on receiving a 2012 Super Teacher Award from the Virginia Lottery; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Megan Beatty Gaeta as an expression of the House of Delegates' gratitude for her exemplary public service.
