WHEREAS, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, the Hindu temple in Old Town Manassas, serves as a gathering place for local residents; and WHEREAS, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir opened its doors at an inaugural ceremony on September 10, 2011, becoming the 67th Hindu temple in the United States and the third in Virginia; and WHEREAS, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, located in a renovated church, has a prayer room, education center, and assembly hall on the first floor, and the second floor has offices and apartments; and WHEREAS, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir brings together Americans of Indian origin to worship, celebrate their rich heritage and festivals, and share their cultural values; and WHEREAS, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir offers a host of programs for all ages, including leadership camps, educational fairs, and cultural programs; and WHEREAS, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir members also reach out to aid in community endeavors through such activities as walk-a-thons, blood donation drives, and health camps; and WHEREAS, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir members, part of the rich cultural fabric of the Commonwealth, make many valuable contributions to the community as they work in a variety of professions and businesses and contribute to their local communities; and WHEREAS, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir looks forward to continuing to serve its members and to reach out to those in the greater community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir hereby be commended for its service to its members and involvement in the community; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the temple's contributions to the Northern Virginia area. |
