WHEREAS, Brenda Sheridan, a longtime member of the Loudoun County School Board who proved to be a fierce advocate and proponent of the Sterling District in which she served, retired from the Loudoun County School Board in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Sheridan has always been deeply invested in the interests of the students, staff, and community of Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), and she worked tirelessly to advance the mission, core beliefs, and strategic goals of the Loudoun County School Board (LCSB); and
WHEREAS, Brenda Sheridan was appointed in June 2011 to the LCSB and re-elected in 2011, 2015 and 2019; during her tenure with the LCSB, she provided outstanding leadership and guidance to LCPS; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Sheridan served as vice-chair of the LCSB for four terms in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 and then served as the board's chair for two terms in 2020 and 2021, guiding the LCSB through the unprecedented difficulties and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Sheridan was instrumental to the creation of the LCSB's Equity Committee, which was established to ensure a learning environment that is equitable, responsive, and supportive of all, and served as the committee's founding chair; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Sheridan co-chaired the LCSB's Joint Committee with the Board of Supervisors and also served on various other committees of the LCSB, including what is now the Legislative, Audit, and Policy Committee, the Finance and Operations Committee, the Student Behavior and Accountability Committee, and the Specialized Programs and Centers Committee; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Sheridan was a liaison to the Washington Area Boards of Education and also served with the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) as the LCSB's delegate and as a member of VSBA's Legislative Positions Committee; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Sheridan worked closely with LCPS as a member of LCSB's Human Resources and Talent Development Committee and Student Services Committee and as a liaison to the school division's Minority Student Achievement Advisory Committee, the Gifted Education Advisory Committee, the Head Start policy council, and the Loudoun School–Business Partnership Executive Council; and
WHEREAS, with great honor, integrity, and distinction, Brenda Sheridan served faithfully as a member of the LCSB for more than 13 years, demonstrating a deep devotion to LCPS and its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Brenda Sheridan hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement from the Loudoun County School Board; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Brenda Sheridan as an expression of the House of Delegates' profound appreciation for her distinguished service.
