WHEREAS, Up Next 2 Vote, a newly formed student journalism organization in Prince William County, strives to help young people stay informed on current events and remain engaged with government affairs at all levels; and
WHEREAS, established on July 6, 2023, Up Next 2 Vote (Up Next) is a student-led blog that focuses on young people who are nearing voting age and wish to become better informed and prepared to create social and political change; and
WHEREAS, Up Next, which was the first organization of its kind in Prince William County, was founded by Patriot High School seniors Frankey Ramirez and Abigail Boursiquot, who recognized a need for trusted media sources tailored to high school students; and
WHEREAS, with the help of its talented writing staff, Stephanie Ferguson of Gainesville High School and Lauryn Carr of Patriot High School, Up Next provides accessible, up-to-date news that is both relevant and relatable to members of their age group; and
WHEREAS, offering unique perspectives on news stories of state and national importance, Up Next has written more than 25 articles and recently posted its first podcast episode; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Up Next 2 Vote hereby be commended for helping students in Prince William County stay informed on important issues; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Up Next 2 Vote as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the blog's commitment to high-quality journalism.
