WHEREAS, Dr. Ben Fitzgerald III, lead pastor of Zion Community Church in Suffolk, has greatly served his community for many years; and
WHEREAS, as lead pastor of Zion Community Church, Ben Fitzgerald oversees a multisite church that has nine congregations and respective site pastors located throughout the Hampton Roads Region; and
WHEREAS, through his inspired sermons and other cooperative efforts with his congregation, Ben Fitzgerald advances Zion Community Church's mission to "Gather, Give, and Grow"; and
WHEREAS, Ben Fitzgerald regularly broadcasts his "A Slice of Heaven" devotional ministry on either Facebook or YouTube to offer his followers an encouraging and reflective moment to uplift them during their busy days; and
WHEREAS, as an extension of his commitment to community empowerment, Ben Fitzgerald has served on the board of commissioners of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (SRHA) since 2015; and
WHEREAS, together with his fellow SRHA commissioners and the organization's executive director, Ben Fitzgerald works to create and maintain affordable housing, viable neighborhoods, and opportunities for self-sufficiency that enhance the quality of life of all citizens of the Western Tidewater region; and
WHEREAS, Ben Fitzgerald is motivated in his pursuits by the loving counsel and support of his wife, Rhonda D. Fitzgerald, and their three children, Rachael, Ben IV, and Adam; and
WHEREAS, Ben Fitzgerald's tireless efforts to foster the personal and spiritual growth of others has made a profound impact on the Suffolk community, garnering the respect and esteem of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Dr. Ben Fitzgerald III hereby be commended for his legacy of service as lead pastor of Zion Community Church and as a commissioner of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Ben Fitzgerald III as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to Suffolk and the Commonwealth.
