HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 964
Commending the Reverend Dr. Earl M. Brown.

WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Earl M. Brown has served the community as the pastor of Fifth Baptist Church in the City of Richmond for 35 years; and

WHEREAS, a native of Williamston, North Carolina, Reverend Brown graduated from E. J. Hayes High School and earned degrees from Elizabeth City State University, Shaw University School of Divinity, and Greensboro Bible School; and

WHEREAS, renowned for his spiritual leadership, Reverend Brown has also received three honorary doctorates from Virginia Union University, Richmond Virginia Seminary, and Virginia University of Lynchburg; and

WHEREAS, answering his calling to serve, inspire, and empower the members of the community, Reverend Brown began his career as a pastor at churches throughout North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, from 1978 to the present, Reverend Brown has served as the pastor of Fifth Baptist Church in Richmond, a historic church that traces its origins to 1865; he is known as a caring, compassionate mentor and friend to everyone he meets; and

WHEREAS, as a member and leader of many volunteer organizations, committees, and boards, Reverend Brown has worked to strengthen civic, religious, and educational institutions and ensure opportunities for other members of the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Reverend Dr. Earl M. Brown on the occasion of his 35th anniversary as pastor of Fifth Baptist Church in Richmond; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dr. Earl M. Brown as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his strong leadership in the community.
