13105262D WHEREAS, the Old Bridge Observer, a respected and widely enjoyed local newspaper, has served Lake Ridge and the surrounding communities for 25 years; and WHEREAS, as the successor to two other local newspapers, the Old Bridge Observer was named for a major road between many of the neighborhoods in the Lake Ridge community, illustrating the newspaper's important role in informing and connecting the community; and WHEREAS, published twice a month, the Old Bridge Observer is mailed directly to all households and businesses in Lake Ridge and 31 other nearby communities; two other local newspapers have followed the Old Bridge Observer's successful model, allowing all three newspapers to serve over 90,000 households in Prince William County; and WHEREAS, publishing a wide range of stories on government, land use, schools, community organizations, businesses, and events, the Old Bridge Observer provides the residents of the Lake Ridge area with the information they need to remain productive members of the Commonwealth; and WHEREAS, the Old Bridge Observer enjoys a loyal and enthusiastic readership; the newspaper is admired for its dedication to publishing positive news stories and for its "hometown feel"; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Old Bridge Observer on its 25 years of service to Lake Ridge and the surrounding communities; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Randi Deiotte Reid, the editor and publisher of the Old Bridge Observer, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the newspaper's dedication to serving Prince William County. |
