WHEREAS, Richmond City Public Schools is comprised of 28 elementary schools, eight middle schools, five comprehensive high schools, and three specialty schools; and WHEREAS, Richmond City Public Schools serves a diverse socioeconomic student population composed of over 24,000 students; and WHEREAS, for the first time since the inception of the Standards of Learning testing program, every Richmond City school earned full accreditation during the 2009 - 2010 school year; and WHEREAS, the accreditation is based on achievement standards in English, mathematics, history, and science; and WHEREAS, under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Yvonne W. Brandon and the Richmond City School Board, Richmond City Public Schools has demonstrated growth in student academic achievement; and WHEREAS, this achievement highlights the shared accomplishment of the school district's outstanding teachers, hardworking students, and dedicated parents; and WHEREAS, Mayor Dwight C. Jones, the Richmond City Council, and the Richmond City School Board continue to work in collaboration to ensure Richmond's students have access to a quality education; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Richmond City Public Schools on achieving full accreditation; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Yvonne W. Brandon, Superintendent of Richmond City Public Schools, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for the school division's commitment to the young people of the City of Richmond. |
