WHEREAS, J. Michael Gamble, a former chief judge of the 24th Judicial Circuit of Virginia and an outstanding member of the Amherst community, retires as a judge in 2015; and WHEREAS, a native of Marion, Michael Gamble graduated from Nelson County High School and earned a bachelor's degree and a law degree from the University of Virginia; and WHEREAS, a dedicated member of his community, Michael Gamble helped rescue a young boy and led search efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Camille in 1969; and WHEREAS, Michael Gamble served his country as a member of the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve, attaining the rank of captain and serving as a company commander; and WHEREAS, Michael Gamble practiced law in Amherst from 1974 to 1991; during that period, he also served as a substitute judge, the assistant commissioner of accounts of the Amherst County Circuit Court, and attorney for the Town of Amherst and Amherst County School Board; and WHEREAS, Michael Gamble became a judge of the 24th Judicial Circuit of Virginia in 1991 and has presided with great fairness and wisdom over circuit courts in the region for more than two decades; and WHEREAS, admired for his leadership and expertise, Michael Gamble was elected as a chief judge of the 24th Judicial District of Virginia for three terms, beginning in 1992, 1995, and 2005; he has also served as a mentor judge since 2011; and WHEREAS, well-respected in the legal field, Michael Gamble has been a member of numerous professional organizations, committees, and commissions and has served as a member of the Boyd-Graves Conference since 2004; and WHEREAS, Michael Gamble offered his time and wise leadership to the community as a charter member of the Amherst County Museum and Historical Society and a member of the Amherst Rotary Club and Amherst Jaycees; and WHEREAS, a man of great integrity, Michael Gamble served the community and the Commonwealth with the utmost professionalism, dedication, and distinction; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable J. Michael Gamble on the occasion of his retirement as a judge; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable J. Michael Gamble as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to the Amherst community and the Commonwealth. |
