HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 89
Celebrating the life of Joseph Brown Journell.

WHEREAS, Joseph Brown Journell, a highly admired member of the Giles County community who touched many lives through his personal and professional achievements, died on August 20, 2023; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Giles County, Joseph Brown "J.B." Journell was born in Pearisburg, lived in Narrows, and was a resident of Heritage Hall in Rich Creek at the time of his passing; and

WHEREAS, J.B. Journell served and safeguarded his fellow residents for 39 years as a member of the Narrows Volunteer Fire Department, where he held several leadership positions during his tenure; and

WHEREAS, J.B. Journell enjoyed a long career with Celanese Corporation and retired as a millwright in 2005 after 27 years of dedicated work; and

WHEREAS, J.B. Journell was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Castle Rock Golf Course, where he worked after his well-earned retirement from Celanese Corporation; and

WHEREAS, J.B. Journell never met a stranger and loved taking walks to share stories or jokes with friends and neighbors, touching countless lives through his generosity and sense of humor; and

WHEREAS, J.B. Journell will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 49 years, Sandy; his daughters, Paula and Sheila, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Joseph Brown Journell; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Joseph Brown Journell as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
