HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 739
Commending Dr. Hugh M. Bryan III, M.D.

WHEREAS, Dr. Hugh M. Bryan III, M.D., a dedicated orthopaedic surgeon from Gloucester, faithfully served the Commonwealth's medical profession as the 2011 - 2012 president of the Medical Society of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Hollywood High School in California, Dr. Bryan earned a bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College and a medical degree from Pennsylvania State University, completing his internship and residency at Letterman Army Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, after serving as assistant chief of orthopaedic surgery at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at Fort Campbell and completing his honorable service with the United States Army, Dr. Bryan returned to civilian life; and

WHEREAS, in 1988 Dr. Bryan joined Riverside York River Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Gloucester and has been a vital member of the community ever since, performing a wide array of procedures on patients of all ages and practicing sports medicine; and

WHEREAS, on staff at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, Dr. Bryan served as vice chair and chair of the Department of Surgery; was a team physician at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York, in 2002; and is currently the team physician for Gloucester High School, Mathews High School, and Christchurch School; and

WHEREAS, a respected leader in his field, Dr. Bryan has made many contributions to his profession as a member of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society and president of the Mid-Tidewater Medical Society; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bryan has taken an active role with the Medical Society of Virginia, serving as vice counselor, vice speaker, speaker, and as a member of the board of directors prior to his tenure as president for the 2011 - 2012 term; and

WHEREAS, during his term as president of the Medical Society of Virginia, Dr. Bryan drew upon his wealth of experience as a physician to provide strong leadership to advance quality health care throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dr. Hugh M. Bryan III, M.D., on his successful term as the 2011 - 2012 president of the Medical Society of Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Hugh M. Bryan III, M.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and respect for his commitment to the medical profession and health care of Virginians.
