WHEREAS, Charlie White, Ph.D., an accomplished educator and college administrator, retires as the president of Wytheville Community College in June 2015; and WHEREAS, Dr. White earned an associate's degree from Hiwassee College, bachelor's and master's degrees from East Tennessee State University, and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee; and WHEREAS, after joining the faculty of New River Community College in Dublin, Dr. White served as the chair of the Math and Science Division and a professor of biology; he then chaired the Division of Arts and Sciences from 1983 to 1998; and WHEREAS, beginning in 2000, Dr. White ably guided the faculty and student body at New River Community College as vice president for instruction and student services; and WHEREAS, Dr. White also offered his wisdom and expertise to the rest of the Virginia Community College System as interim vice chancellor for academic services and research in 2005; and WHEREAS, Dr. White joined Wytheville Community College as president in May 2006; during his tenure, he worked to ensure that the college maintained a high-quality curriculum and established trust and partnerships within the Wytheville community; and WHEREAS, ably leading thousands of students and hundreds of faculty members throughout his time as president, Dr. White oversaw many achievements and helped the college succeed in its mission to prepare students for careers and responsible citizenship and serve the needs of the community; and WHEREAS, Dr. White leaves a legacy of excellence to the faculty and staff of Wytheville Community College, as well as his successor as president; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Charlie White, Ph.D., on the occasion of his retirement as president of Wytheville Community College; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlie White, Ph.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his distinguished service to Wytheville Community College and contributions to higher education in the Commonwealth. |
