15103358D WHEREAS, Samuel Bryan Chandler of Montross, a successful business owner, a dedicated public servant, a supporter of many civic and charitable organizations in Westmoreland County, a man of faith, and a devoted husband and father, died on September 23, 2014; and WHEREAS, Samuel Bryan Chandler, who was known as Bryan, was an alumnus of The College of William and Mary and was a legacy member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity; he was a prominent businessperson in the Northern Neck and was a Chevrolet dealer for 45 years; and WHEREAS, Bryan Chandler, who was the founder of automobile dealerships in Montross and Tappahannock, was a former member of the board of directors of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association; he also served on numerous other boards, including Riverside Tappahannock Hospital and Northern Neck State Bank, which is now part of Union First Market Bank; and WHEREAS, public service was central to Bryan Chandler's life; he was mayor of Montross and had served on the Town Council; he also strongly supported revitalization efforts in downtown Montross; and WHEREAS, Bryan Chandler was a director and former chair of the board of the Westmoreland County Museum and was a trustee of the Westmoreland County Poor School Society, an organization founded in 1812 to provide scholarships to young people in the county who could not afford an education; and WHEREAS, Bryan Chandler, who enjoyed woodworking, cared deeply about Westmoreland County and Virginia's beautiful Northern Neck; he dearly loved Lawfield, his family farm, and he greatly treasured the area's deep heritage—a place where the nation took root; and WHEREAS, a man of faith who is remembered for his kindness, fairness, and service to his community, Bryan Chandler was a lifelong member of St. James' Episcopal Church in Montross, where he served on the vestry and was Sunday School superintendent; and WHEREAS, Bryan Chandler will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by Carol, his wife of 46 years; their children, Louis and Brandon, and their families; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Samuel Bryan Chandler of Montross, a successful business owner, a dedicated public servant, a supporter of many civic and charitable organizations in Westmoreland County, a man of faith, and a devoted husband and father; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Samuel Bryan Chandler as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
