WHEREAS, the Newport News Green Foundation promotes the creation and preservation of green spaces throughout the city in order to make Newport News an appealing place to live, work, and play; and WHEREAS, the many benefits of green spaces for urban dwellers include making a city more beautiful and establishing wildlife habitats; additionally, by creating environmentally and aesthetically appealing urban spaces out of abandoned or neglected pockets of land, the entire city benefits; and WHEREAS, the Green Foundation helps to acquire, establish, maintain, and preserve green spaces within the city; organizations such as the Newport News Green Foundation can help strengthen the local economy and enhance the city by making it cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable; and WHEREAS, the Newport News Green Foundation's work helps protect area waterways from pollution and helps reduce air and noise pollution; an abundance of green space, often reclaimed from medians, intersections, and other heavily trafficked areas, helps to attract business and maintain property values; and WHEREAS, through advocacy, acquisition, and assistance to others, the Newport News Green Foundation strives to make this historic Tidewater city inviting and welcoming to residents and visitors alike; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Newport News Green Foundation for its work to encourage the creation and preservation of green space throughout the city; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Newport News Green Foundation as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and admiration for its efforts on behalf of the residents and businesses of Newport News. |
