WHEREAS, Gerri Martha Davis Ligon, the matriarch of a loving family who faithfully served the Newport News community through her career in real estate, died on February 16, 2013; and

WHEREAS, a native of Union City, Tennessee, Martha Ligon moved at the young age of 18 to Newport News; and

WHEREAS, Martha Ligon married the love of her life, Buddy, and they embarked on their life together and raised two children; and

WHEREAS, known for her happy demeanor, Martha Ligon enjoyed a long career in real estate and took great pride in providing outstanding customer service; and

WHEREAS, Martha Ligon enjoyed fellowship and worship with other community members at Temple Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Buddy, Martha Ligon will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Don and Dianne, and their families, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of Newport News, Gerri Martha Davis Ligon; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gerri Martha Davis Ligon as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
