Designating the Tuesday after the November General Election, in 2025 and in each succeeding year, as Election Worker Appreciation Day in Virginia.

WHEREAS, election workers (i) open and close the polls, (ii) ensure that only qualified voters are permitted to vote and that each qualified voter is permitted to vote once and only once in a given election, (iii) give instructions on the method of voting when requested by a voter, (iv) give assistance to voters who need it for reasons of physical disability or an inability to read or write, (v) maintain order in the polling place throughout early voting and election day voting, (vi) tally the vote after the polls are closed, and (vii) certify the election results in individual precincts; and
WHEREAS, election workers, with their training, dedication, and professionalism, play a vital role in ensuring efficient and secure elections; and
WHEREAS, elections are the foundation of our democracy, and election officials work tirelessly to protect this critical infrastructure while maintaining public confidence in the outcome of our electoral processes; and
WHEREAS, election workers provide an invaluable function to our Commonwealth and are one of the Commonwealth's most valuable resources; and
WHEREAS, election workers are truly the unsung heroes of our democracy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate the Tuesday after the November General Election, in 2025 and in each succeeding year, as Election Worker Appreciation Day in Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the Department of Elections, the Virginia Electoral Board Association, and the Voter Registrars Association of Virginia so that members of such entities may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia in this matter; and, be it
RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates post the designation of this day on the General Assembly's website.
