WHEREAS, Roger Green, a longtime educator, the executive director of the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce, and a community leader who dedicated his life to the service of others, died on October 23, 2015; and WHEREAS, a native of Scott County, Indiana, Roger Green earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University, a master's degree and a certificate of advanced study from Old Dominion University, and an education specialist degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and WHEREAS, for 35 years, Roger Green helped students prepare for further education and responsible citizenship as principal of Colonial Heights Middle School, Dublin Middle School, and Pulaski Middle School and assistant principal of Princess Anne High School and Newtown Road Elementary School; and WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to his fellow Central Virginia residents, Roger Green promoted responsible growth in Colonial Heights and advocated for the business community as the executive director of the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, admired for his innovative leadership style, professionalism, and care for the well-being of others, Roger Green also served as the vice president of membership for the Virginia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives; and WHEREAS, possessed of a servant's heart, Roger Green offered his time and wise leadership to several boards and civic organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Heights, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Old Brick House Foundation, Colonial Heights Food Pantry, Tri-Cities Workcamp, and Arc South of the James; and WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Roger Green was a devout member of the United Methodist Church; he held leadership roles in congregations in Virginia Beach, Dublin, and Colonial Heights and ministered Blackstone Christian Church; and WHEREAS, Roger Green will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Robyn; children, Kathryn and Zac; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Roger Green, a devoted educator and a respected leader in the Colonial Heights community; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Roger Green as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
