WHEREAS, Jeanne O. Cox, of Charlottesville, a respected public servant and advocate for an open government process, is recognized in 2010 for her nearly 30 years of outstanding service to the citizens of the City of Charlottesville and the surrounding community; and WHEREAS, devoted to her community, Jeanne Cox became passionate about local government and the opportunities to serve all citizens; and WHEREAS, Jeanne Cox began working as the Clerk of Council in 1983; and WHEREAS, Jeanne Cox has worked with many council members and mayors of all backgrounds; and WHEREAS, a hard-working and conscientious administrator, Jeanne Cox has always demonstrated compassion and concern for all members of the community; and WHEREAS, during her long tenure, Jeanne Cox has been instrumental in providing accurate and timely information to anyone who sought to learn more about the business of the Charlottesville City Council and the City's many boards and commissions; and WHEREAS, with Jeanne Cox's guidance, the City of Charlottesville has provided the community with essential and unique information to build public trust in the transparency of local government; and WHEREAS, due to her efforts, the Charlottesville City Council is now known as a body that welcomes and encourages engagement and involvement at every appropriate juncture; and WHEREAS, Jeanne Cox was a leader in reviving Charlottesville's sister city relationship with Poggio a Caiano, Italy, in 1998, forging relationships with Italian friends and government officials that have lasted more than a decade and enriched the cultural life of both communities; and WHEREAS, Jeanne Cox will be remembered and appreciated as a stalwart community advocate for open government and the transparent flow of information for the betterment of the entire community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Jeanne Cox on her retirement from the City of Charlottesville after 27 years of service; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jeanne Cox as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for her many outstanding achievements and gratitude for her commitment to the Charlottesville/Albemarle community. |
