Commending Rachel Yarnell Thompson.

WHEREAS, Rachel Yarnell Thompson, an esteemed employee and historian at the George C. Marshall International Center, has greatly supported the organization's mission to bring to life the timeless values of selfless service and unwavering integrity to develop visionary leaders worldwide; and

WHEREAS, a former high school American history teacher and curriculum specialist, Rachel Thompson has been the Marshall historian at the George C. Marshall International Center for more than 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Thompson's extensive knowledge of George C. Marshall, who was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during World War II, has provided unique perspectives that inform the organization's presentations and programming; and

WHEREAS, in 2014, the George C. Marshall International Center published Rachel Thompson's highly acclaimed biography of George C. Marshall titled, Marshall: A Statesman Shaped in the Crucible of War; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Thompson supports the George C. Marshall International Center's efforts to operate Dodona Manor, a historic house museum in Leesburg that was the home of George C. Marshall from 1941 until his death in 1959, for the benefit of the community; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Thompson facilitates the George C. Marshall International Center's educational programs that explore George C. Marshall's principles and approach to leadership; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Thompson has helped to make the George C. Marshall International Center a leading historical institution in Loudoun County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Rachel Yarnell Thompson for her legacy of service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rachel Yarnell Thompson as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her contributions to the George C. Marshall International Center and the Commonwealth.
